Immortals Fenyx review - is it worth playing?

Review of Immortals Fenyx

Rising Immortals Fenyx Rising is a new open-world action game based on ancient Greek myths. This is a game where Ubisoft combined elements from its own Assassin's Creed and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from Nintendo. In the latter, the developers of Fenyx Rising saw even more than in AC, but there is nothing wrong with the borrowing itself — it was important to implement these ideas correctly. The creators of Immortals managed to do a lot — although they still missed the essence of "Zelda". And the result is just a good adventure game in the open world, with a funny story about the heroes and villains of ancient Greek myths and a lot of puzzles.
Immortals Fenyx Rising is a game with a light mood, a plot in the spirit of Disney's "Hercules" and a lot of jokes (sometimes quite stupid)
There are games that look like cartoons, but are ideologically dramatic and extremely deep. Immortals Fenyx Rising is not one of them. This is in every sense a very easy adventure on a fabulous island where ancient Greek gods and demigods live. However, they live-loudly said, rather-survive. The fact is that the island was captured by Typhon — a powerful giant, born of Tartarus. The gods and all the famous heroes of ancient Greek myths wanted to stop him, but lost the battle, and now all hope is on the main character, the very warrior of the Phoenix.

There are no revelations and deep thoughts in this story: the world of Immortals is simply threatened by a large and terrible giant who has settled in the center of the island, where the gate to Tartarus is located, and from time to time threatens to destroy all life. The task of the Phoenix is to explore the five large territories of the island, enlist the support of other heroes and gods, after giving them some help, and drive Typhon away.

The story of the Phoenix is like another legend that Zeus and Prometheus tell behind the scenes right during the game. They joke a lot, treat everything that happens with humor, often argue and interrupt each other, and generally behave like characters from the "Disney" cartoon "Hercules". The same can be said about the Phoenix and everyone he meets during his adventure. There are a lot of jokes about and without in Fenyx Rising, but, fortunately, it fits into the general mood of the whole game — the main thing is to immediately accept the fact that this is a comedy cartoon. Then the expectations of the deceived will not be there - you will only have to laugh and enjoy the bright and funny story about caricature evil. And this is an open-world action game from Ubisoft, which is not at all similar in structure to Assassin's Creed
The development of Immortals Fenyx Rising was carried out by the team of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but the new game is not at all similar to the series about assassins in its structure. It doesn't have multiple-choice dialogues and other distinct RPG elements, or cities with lots of NPCs to chat with in your spare time — nothing like that. But for all this, there is a recent "Valhalla", if you really want to.Instead of the usual Ubisoft things in Immortals — five large regions of the island (except for the gates of Tartarus and a modest training location), statues of ancient Greek gods, which serve as points from which you can look around and mark "places of interest" on the map, and a huge number of puzzles.

Regions are managed by one of the gods, and therefore, in order to perform a plot task in a particular area, you need to somehow help a representative of the pantheon. Let's say the Valley of Eternal Spring is the region of Aphrodite. And the trouble with it is that Typhon turned it into a tree, and your task now is to return it to its former form. Or here is the land of Hephaestus, where the long-extinct forge is located — it is up to you to launch it again.Travel through any of the areas, however, it is better to start with the statue of the corresponding god — only with it you can look around in a special mode and note for yourself all the secrets, chests, riddles, treasures, crypts and resources for pumping. The lesson, frankly, is so-so — sometimes you can stand on top of the statue for five minutes in real time, doing "pixel hunting" and looking for" places of interest " by the vibration of the gamepad. The synchronization mechanics from Assassin's Creed are much more convenient.

A separate point — puzzles. There are a lot of them in Immortals: some - in dilapidated temples, another part-in the crypts of Tartarus (similar to the shrines from Breath of the Wild), some in caves. And there are also challenges, during which you need, for example, to hold a controlled arrow through several rings or play a melody on a huge harp, which can be heard on one of the many small harps scattered around the world of the game.

In short, your main activities in Fenyx Rising are passing story quests, solving puzzles and completing challenges, as well as searching for treasures, legendary equipment and all sorts of resources for pumping. Well, and battles with opponents, of course — - this is also a lot in Immortals. But Immortals Fenyx Rising is similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-and not only in structure
The Crypts of Tartarus are just one of several elements that Ubisoft has clearly spied on in The Legend of Zelda. We are talking about separate locations with puzzles, where the Phoenix moves from the open world and where it solves puzzles. The crypts look great, but there's not much time to look at them, because they are full of things to do — here roll a stone ball on a button in the floor, here move the desired object with telekinesis, then shoot a bow at a target-a lever that raises several platforms-and, if you do not fall into the abyss, fight with a crowd of enemies.

Not always specifically in this order and not always exactly such actions, but the principle of passing such crypts, I think, is clear — these are really puzzle locations, where from time to time you can fight monsters and find hidden loot.In addition, Immortals is a game with completely free movement, meaning that the Phoenix can climb and descend anywhere. This is not unusual — after all, all of Assassin's Creed is about that. The interesting thing here is that the main character of Fenyx Rising has an endurance scale, which is spent, among other things, on climbing on any steep surfaces. And this scale is displayed next to the character on the left exactly at the moment when he climbs the rock. If the stamina runs out, the Phoenix will fall down-but it can, of course, be replenished with potions.

How does the hero descend from a great height? On the wings! Just plans how to Link using the glider. And that, too, of course, takes stamina — although that's strange, because magic wings... well, can't get tired?

Differences from "Zelda", however, are also enough, and most importantly-a much more spectacular combat system
Nevertheless, it is impossible to recommend Immortals Fenyx Rising to anyone who wants to get The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from it, because the authors of the new action game missed the essence of the Nintendo game. Or they just didn't want to go that deep into the concept. I'll explain what you're talking about.

Breath of the Wild-an adventure in the literal sense of the word. A game without clear intermediate goals, in it you can simply go in any direction and find something interesting. In many ways, the spirit of adventure in" Zelda " is supported by unique mechanics, including the influence of the weather on the gameplay, the ability to cook everything on any fire, advanced interactive. Immortals is devoid of all this. But the combat system in it compares favorably with what The Legend of Zelda can offer in this regard. Phoenix is a mythical hero who saves the world of the ancient Greek gods, and he has a lot of magical skills that can be used in battles with monsters. He is attracted to the opponents, using an energy whip, picks up spears from the ground and delivers a crushing blow to the square.

Basic sword attacks are similar to how Link fights, but in conjunction with special abilities, the Fenyx Rising combat system evokes slashers. In this game, too, you can fly up to the flying enemy, strike a few blows, evade the retaliatory attack, catch the whip on the enemy more and complete the combo with a powerful blow to the square. All this, of course, also expends stamina.

Battles in Immortals look much more spectacular than in Breath of the Wild, just due to all sorts of abilities and a huge number of colorful effects. And the main thing is that, despite the "cartoon" drawing and generally quite naive story, Fenyx Rising is a very difficult game. Once you doubt that those jellyfish and cerberus are dangerous opponents, you will soon have to watch the loading screen.

And also-the ability to pump everything in a row
A lot of attention in Fenyx Rising is paid to pumping, based on various kinds of resources. So, for pumping endurance, you need the lightning of Zeus, which the Phoenix receives for passing the crypts of Tartarus. All sorts of berries and plants are spent on preparing potions (medicinal, to restore stamina, increase damage, and so on) and improving their effectiveness. Abilities can be upgraded for Charon coins, which, in turn, are a reward for completing challenges. The health reserve increases for ambrosia (it can be found all over the world), the weapon swings for colorful stones from chests.

There is, by the way, an in-game store in Immortals — as in all modern Ubisoft games. There you can buy equipment and other cosmetics, as usual. It's funny that the store is "written" into the world of the game — it is run by Hermes, the god of not only cunning, but also trade. And also-theft (with self-irony at Immortals, too, everything is fine).Immortals Fenyx Rising is a bright adventure with puzzles and an exciting combat system, which is very lacking in what the game has, which Ubisoft's new action game really wants to be like. And this is bad — but only if you want to get "Zelda" from Immortals, but, as I said, this is pointless.
